Selim Küçükkaya is a doctoral candidate at the Chair of Comparative Politics and European Governance. In his dissertation, he is researching the importance of social infrastructure (e.g., cafés, libraries, and schools) for democracy. In addition, he focuses extensively on climate policy at the local level. He studied political science (B.A. 2019, M.A. 2024) at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and Duke University (USA), as well as the Erasmus Mundus Master’s program in Urban Studies (M.Sc. 2024), which included study periods in Brussels, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Madrid.


  • Since 09/2024: Research assistant at the Chair of Comparative Politics (Prof. Dr. Sandra Eckert), FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg.
  • 2024: MSc. Joint Master Degree in Urban Studies. Topic: Transformation in Emergency Mode? Exploring the impact of climate emergency declarations on the transformation capacity of two German cities. First supervisor: Univ.-Prof. Dr. habil. Kerstin Krellenberg.
  • 2022-2024: Student Assistant at the Chair of Comparative Politics (Prof. Dr. Sandra Eckert), FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg.
  • 2022 – 2024: Studying the Erasmus Mundus Master’s program “Master of Urban Studies” (4CITIES) in Brussels, Vienna, Copenhagen and Madrid.
