Global Forced Displacement 2026 Report presented at the Federal Press Conference

On 1 June 2026, Prof. Dr. Petra Bendel presented the key findings of the Global Forced Displacement 2026 report at the Federal Press Conference in Berlin. Published by the FFVT project, the report analyses current developments in forced displacement worldwide and examines the political, legal and humanitarian challenges associated with displacement and forced migration.

Together with Dr. Benjamin Etzold and Dr. Franck Düvell, the FFVT team discussed the implications of current migration and asylum policy developments in Europe as well as global trends in displacement and international protection.

The authors highlight that many receiving countries are increasingly focusing on migration control and border management measures, while questions of international protection and humanitarian responsibility are receiving less attention.

During the presentation, Petra Bendel emphasised the importance of a refugee protection system firmly grounded in the rule of law, as well as the need for a shared European responsibility for the reception and protection of refugees. In the context of the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), she also pointed to the challenges arising from the implementation of the new regulations for both protection seekers and EU Member States.

The report presentation received considerable media attention and contributed to a broader public debate on the future of refugee protection, European asylum policy and global displacement trends.

The report was published on 1 June 2026 and is available both through bookstores and as an Open Access publication.
