On 22 April 2026, the panel discussion “Local Politics in Transition” took place in the City Council Chamber of City of Erlangen as part of the lecture series Sustainability – (FA)U for Sustainability.
The discussion focused on changes in local political structures and urban societies, as well as the question of how democratic culture and climate policy decision-making have evolved at the municipal level.
During the event, Dr. Ulrich Maly and Dr. Siegfried Balleis reflected on their many years of experience in local government, offering insights into political transformation processes, societal dynamics and the challenges of municipal governance.
Moderated by Prof. Dr. Petra Bendel, the discussion provided an opportunity to reflect on local political capacities, societal change and the role of democratic deliberation in times of multiple crises.
