Selim Küçükkaya, doctoral candidate at the Chair of Comparative Politics and European Governance, presented his research project at a poster session at the 1st EELISA PhD Symposium in late November. In his interdisciplinary doctoral project, he complements research on social infrastructures (in the sense of libraries, cafés, and social media) with a political science perspective and asks: What role do these infrastructures play in a democratic society?

The symposium took place on November 27 and 28, 2025, on the campus of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). In addition to the poster session, the diverse program also offered thematic workshops (e.g., on ethics in research) and many opportunities to network with other doctoral students from all over Europe. The symposium is the first of several planned events for doctoral students in the EELISA network, in which FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is also participating. The series of events is open to doctoral students from all disciplines at the ten European partner universities.
