On 21 February 2024, Prof. Dr Katrin Kinzelbach took part in a public hearing in the German Bundestag as an expert. The Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment discussed the internationalisation of research and higher education. In their joint motion on the subject, the SPD, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and FDP called for the internationalisation of science and higher education to be guided by interests and values. Competing motions were submitted by the CDU/CSU and the AFD. Other experts came from the German Rectors’ Conference, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Charité in Berlin and the University of Heidelberg. Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Foreign Office also answered questions from MPs. Table Media published a report on the hearing.
